June 14th - Flag day<\/p>\n

Have you seen Flag day on calendars and wondered what is this special day?\u00a0 Well I have.\u00a0 Here is what I have learned.<\/p>\n

1.\u00a0 June 14, 1777, the Continental Congress replaced the British symbols of the Grand Union flag with 13 white stars in a circle on a blue square and 13 red and white stripes \u2013 one for each state.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0 June 1886, Bernard Cigrand made his first public proposal for the annual observance of the birth of the flag.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0 President Woodrow Wilson issued a proclamation for a nationwide observance of Flag day on June 14, 1916.<\/p>\n

4.\u00a0 Flag Day did not become official until August 1949, when President Harry Truman signed the legislation and proclaimed June 14 as Flag Day.<\/p>\n
