In my last article, I highlighted the Fantasy of Light Parade. This time, I will bring you up to date on many of the holiday happenings in Tempe and maybe a few of the surrounding cities.
The first item is the Fantasy of Lights Boat Parade. I know many of you have seen a parade on the city streets, but have you experienced a parade on a lake. Especially a lake in the middle of the city! If not, you have the perfect opportunity to witness and experience this on Saturday, Dec. 10th at the Tempe Town Lake. There will be activities in the park including Santa arriving at the park at 6pm. The parade will start at 7pm. Be sure to bring some hot beverages and blankets. The temperature always feels cooler when you are by the water. This is also the only time of the year that motorized vessels are allowed on the lake. This is a FREE event!
Another FREE event is a performance of the Nutcracker at the Edna Vihel Center on Friday, Dec. 9th, 7pm. The Paradise Winds Ensemble will play the music from the ballet. While you are there you can bring the kids and participate in the Family Fun Factory. During the Family Fun Factory there is music, art, food and fun. This event runs from 6:30 pm – 9pm. I have taken my kids to the Family Fun Factory when they were younger and they really enjoyed it.
Danish Christmas at the Petersen House – This gem isn’t open to the public too often. It is a very cute home and sits on the corner of Priest and Southern. The decorations are awesome. This year they are highlighting stories from Hans Christian Andersen such as; The Princess and the Pea, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, The Little Match Girl and The Ugly Duckling. If you go to the museum on Sundays in December you will also get to enjoy storytelling time.
There are many holiday events scheduled at the Tempe Marketplace. I can’t name them all, but the highlights are the Snowglobe and the Snowing. They have a holiday snowglobe which is 15 feet! Every night it snows at the Marketplace in the District area. It snows at 7 and 8pm for 8 minutes. Just about every weekend, they have live entertainment scheduled at the different stages in the District area and the Tempe Marketplace. Please click on the link to see the list and discriptions
