In an earlier post, I introduced you to Kiwanis Park. In this article you will get a verbal tour of the Kiwanis Recreation Center. The recreation center in is a 54,000 square foot complex that is operated by the City of Tempe. As you can probably tell by the name, the recreation center is located within Kiwanis Park, just north of Guadalupe Road and on All-American Way.
At this facility you will find the following amenities:
- Fitness Center
- Tennis Center
- Batting Range
- Indoor Pool
- Dodgeball League
- Birthday Party Opportunities
- Parks & Recreation Classes for Adults and Youth
- Facility Rental opportunities
- Corporate Ramada rental area
The fitness facility includes cardiovascular and strength training equipment, plus group exercise (Yoga/Pilates, Stretching and Yoga classes), personal training and sports programs for the entire family.
They have 15 lighted courts and offer many different classes for the beginner to the novice player. There is also a pro-shop located inside the Recreation Center.
The batting cages are open in the evening for all levels (beginner to professional – baseball and softball) to come in and practice your swing.
They offer and indoor heated pool. Imagine swimming in December and it is a nice warm 84 degrees. You can come and play in the wave pool or you can swim laps or participate in the water aerobic classes. The pool is 127 feet long and 15 feet tall with a double spiral water slide. The wave pool provides 3 foot waves. That is certainly enough wave to move you around the pool.
In the gym, you can play basketball, volleyball, and now dodgeball and have air-conditioning. There is a newly renovated real wood floor. They offer open play time and supervised drop-in programs.
Remember the movie Dodgeball? Well Kiwanis Rec. Center offers a dodgeball league. You must be at least 18 to play. Dodgeball is for both boys and girls and the teams are made on-site as you arrive.
They offer both pool parties and batting range parties.
The facility can be rented for meetings, classes, receptions, reunions, athletic events, parties, corporate activities. Contact David Bucher for a tour or questions at (480) 350-5791.
This Ramada area has a 20’x40′ Picnic Shelter with grills, lights and some electricity, 2 sand volleyball courts, and lush grass area. Along with private and exclusive use of the Ramada area you also have the option to add to your event the gym, wave pool, tennis courts, or batting cages for an additional fee.
